When it comes to hair and makeup I like a more natural, if slightly mussed up look. I think that’s where my obsession with skincare stems from. You can’t pull off the “what, me? makeup?” look if your skin is garbage. I haven’t mastered it so a great foundation is key. And lots of sunblock, sleep and water helps, too. But generally, a little black eye liner, a little mascara, a swipe of lip gloss and some bed head, and here we have the look I aspire to every day.
But that’s not the point of this post. Every once in a while you need to break out of your comfort zone and try something new. I’m a classic-style type of girl and I’m a respectable 26-years-old, so I think it’s time to finally cross “Try Red Lips” off my Beauty Bucket List. I think I can pull it off. Maybe. Here’s my inspiration:

Carolyn Besset Kennedy went for a shiny red; I’m leaning more matte, but either way, she wins with her simple execution of this look
In anticipation of this, over the weekend I bought Mac’s “Ruby Woo” lipstick. I expected to pay around $28-30 for this bad boy, so at $15, I consider this an absolute steal. The texture is very matte, but I have noticed the wear isn’t great unless I use a lip liner, so I recommend also buying a nude one to frame the lip line. Don’t get a red one. When the color fades, you don’t want an embarrassing red outline around your lips.

This matte, blue-toned red will look great on anyone.
I’ll be debuting it at my friend Shawna’s birthday this Friday. Wish me luck!

you will look fabulous, I’m sure! are you going to do a liner, too or no? post pics!
I was going to chance it without a lip liner, but maybe I’ll get one. Better safe than sorry! I’ll take lots of pics, promise!
Whatever you do- DONT match your lip liner to your lipstick because once the stick wears off you’ll have a noticeable line! Use a natural lip toned liner (obvi I love MK’s in Neutral) but any tone close to your lip shade will work. I want to see pictures!
